He completed his postgraduation in Psychiatry from King George’s Medical College, Lucknow; in the year 1999. During this period, he conducted a study on the possible changes in the brain in depression. At the Final Examination (M.D.), he was awarded the Gold Medal for best performance.
Subsequently, he was awarded the DNB Psychiatry degree from the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi.
He has worked at RML Hospital, New Delhi, for three years where he was looking after General Adult Psychiatry apart from Special Clinics for Children and Adolescents, Sexual Problems, and Elderly People.
In 2003, following an evaluation of Dr. Gupta’s qualifications, psychiatric training, and experience, he was awarded the CST in Adult Psychiatry by the then Specialist Training Authority. Trainee doctors in the UK have to undergo a minimum period of three years after the MRCPsych to be awarded the CST. It is only a CST that allows doctors to work as a Substantive/Permanent Consultant in the National Health Service in the UK.
