Counselling is a professional partnership that helps individuals, families, and groups achieve their mental health, wellness, education, and career objectives. Counselling is a two-way process in which the counsellor and the client work together. Counsellors assist clients in identifying goals and potential solutions to emotional difficulties, as well as improving communication and coping skills, boosting self-esteem, and promoting behaviour change and optimal mental health. They assist clients in identifying their objectives, aspirations, and potential, as well as developing solutions to problems that are causing them emotional discomfort. Counselling is effective for improving communication, coping, self-esteem, and positive behaviour. Some counsellors work with clients on a broad range of concerns, while others specialise in specific areas such as depression, relationship troubles, or children.
Many psychologists also work under the title of counsellor, but counselling is an independent certification also.
