Set up a worthy goal

Retaining focus for short time is quite easy. But if you want your life to transform you will first have to set up a vision, a long-term goal. This long-term vision and quest to attain that vision will change your life. You will see the quality of your life improving because it’s not about focusing for an hour, you have to align your days, months, habits, thoughts, and every action to achieve that goal. Focusing will be easier because you have set a direction for your life.

You will start aligning everything like people you meet, places you go, things you represent so that your goal is met.

Regulate your habits

It is important to keep track of your sleep pattern, your eating habits, your exercise routine.

Your body likes maintaining a rhythm. If you wake you at say at 8 am, keep that habit (stabilize it) because fluctuations will confuse your internal system and you are unlikely to feel your best because your body isn’t supporting you.

It’s important to include some form of exercise in your daily routine.

To retain focus you will need to align your schedule so that your body gets all the essential things at regular intervals.

Gentle reminder: Don’t skip your breakfast!

Prioritize and schedule

Many people say that they don’t like to schedule. “A tight schedule” sounds harsh and imposing. But it doesn’t have to be imposing and harsh.

The way you think about it makes a lot of difference-

If you think that “schedule is an external tyrant” imposing things upon you then you have misapprehended its significance.

You schedule and prioritize because you want to retain focus on the things that are truly important to you. Scheduling gives you the scope to design the day you would like to have. If you don’t prioritize yourself you will get consumed with things that aren’t helpful for your growth. You will be left at the mercy of external currents and your ship will never reach the destination.

Pro Tip: Make you of tools like Google Calendar and Google keep to schedule and prioritize.

Devices can become a distraction

It seems like our mobile phones and laptops have become an inalienable part of us. It is hard to imagine a single day without our laptops/mobile phones.

But if you don’t keep yourself in check you will spiral into a cycle where it will impossible to focus on anything in life! Be mindful of the quality of content you consume because that will also affect your mental and emotional state.

When you want to concentrate on a particular task you can keep your notifications on mute.

Resting and relaxing are crucial

We live in a culture that glorifies burnout. We like to keep ourselves busy. We demand productivity all the long. But in this humdrum, we forget that if we cannot go on like this forever, and the volcano will explode one day. If we want to retain long-term focus and achieve our goal we have to allow ourselves to rest at regular intervals.

It is important to enjoy and relax in life or else won’t be happy even when we achieve our goal.

Remember, enjoying the journey is equally important.

It’s very important that we re-learn the art of resting and relaxing. Not only does it help prevent the onset of many illnesses that develop through chronic tension and worrying; it allows us to clear our minds, focus, and find creative solutions to problems. – Earl Nightingale
