Chakra meditation getting very popular these days as people need instant solutions for their problems. The term Chakra originates from Sanskrit and translates into “wheel” or disk”. 

It is said that there are a total of seven chakras in our body and they are pockets of energy.

The Root Chakra 

It is associated with the pelvic floor (Muladhara). It is associated with your sense of security and emotional needs. 

The color of this Chakra is RED. And the sound associated with it is LAM.

The Sacral Chakra

It is situated above the pubic bone and below the navel (Swadhishthana). It is known as the creative energy center within the human body. 

The color of this chakra is Orange. And the sound associated with it is VAM.

The Solar Plexus Chakra 

Covers the part from the navel to the rib cage (Manipura). It is said to govern things related to metabolism and digestion.  The color of this Chakra is Yellow. And the sound associated with it is RAM.

The Heart Chakra 

chakra meditationIt is said to be located at the center of the chest (Anahata). It is a center where the physical meets the spiritual. It is said that if this chakra is properly aligned compassion, love, and forgiveness can flow easily.  

The color of this Chakra is Green. And the sound associated with it is YAM.

The Throat Chakra

It is associated with the neck, mouth, jaw, tongue (Vishuddha). If this chakra is aligned your speech and actions will also be aligned. The color of this Chakra is Blue. And the sound associated with it is HAM.

The Third Eye Chakra 

It is located between the eyebrows (Ajna). It is said to govern parts of the eyes, head, and pituitary gland. It is assumed to be a gateway between you and the outside world.  

The color of this Chakra is Indigo. And the sound associated with it is AUM.

The Crown Chakra

This chakra is situated on the top of the head (Sahasrara). This chakra has the link to every other chakra and is considered as the gateway to enlightenment. The person who has cleansed this chakra experiences bliss.  

The color of this Chakra is Violet. And the sound associated with it is OM.

There are various ways in which you can perform Chakra meditation. It is easier nowadays because of the content available but you have to make sure that you choose the right one. 

“Box Breathing” Chakra Meditation Technique

You may try the “Box Breathing” Chakra Meditation technique which is described below-

To perform this meditation it is better to choose a quiet place where you will not be disturbed for at least 15-20 minutes. Sit in Sukhasana (crossed leged) posture, hands on your knees with palms facing upwards or thumb touching in the index finger. Keep your eyes gently closed and then start with one deep inhale. Feel your belly rise as you do this count till four. And then try to hold it for another count of four. Now, slowly exhale the air from the mouth while counting four. 

Once all the air is released, hold again for the final count of four. You can observe that something like a box is complete. This is why it is called box breathing or square breathing technique. 

While doing this, you can visualize one chakra after another, starting from the root chakra. Spend time picturing them as an illuminated spinning wheel or a lotus flower whichever way you like. Then picture the chakra gaining more and more energy. You can do this for 15-20 minutes or for a longer time.
